Wisconsin wins 73-69
Bad game for Duke. Lance Thomas was not effective, Brian Zoubek played bad, Nolan Smith made bad decisions and is continuing to take bad shots and they let Wisconsin shoot 40% from three. Scheyer didn't play very well either, going 0-3 from three and 2-7 overall. He got to the line though, and went 6-6 from the line. The only thing that kept Duke in the game was Andre Dawkins, who nailed 4 threes in the end of the game, and Kyle Singler who had 28 points. Kyle Singler made some bad decisions in the second half, but played brilliantly in the first half. There are a lot of missing pieces in Duke's game right now. The biggest is their lack of a go to post guy, maybe Mason Plumlee or Miles Plumlee, they are going to improve tremendously. Also, like we have always said, Smith is the difference. When he is amking good decisions, taking good shots, playing good defense and penetrating, that opens up the whole offense and the three shooter like Kyle Singler, Jon Scheyer and J.J. Reddick, oops i mean Andre Dawkins. Nolan Smith is the key. he hasn't played well lately, but all the pieces will soon come together. Duke was also rattled by the crazy Wisconsin crowd as this was their first away game. Coach K will tell his team what they need to do, and they are disciplined enough to listen and improve. Folks, come February and march March, this will be a great basketball team.

*Sheyer was hindered by the outstanding defense of Travon Hughes.
ReplyDelete*Collectively the Badger Defense kept Duke's front court players off balance and off the boards where they usually dominate. Basically Duke got out muscled, and out hustled.
*Wisconsin guards Trevon Hughes and Jordan Taylor were were able to penetrate at will on Dukes Defense.
*Wisconsin's swing offense and screens set up a lot of open looks and wiscy knocked down the shots.
*Wisconsin had 17 assists to only 5 turnovers. Fouls and shooting percentages were basically even.
*It's not that Duke played bad as your blog alludes to. They were simply outplayed by Wisconsin. Give credit where credit is due.
I have to give alot of credit to Wisconsin. But Duke just wasn't the same team as they were when they played in Cameron and against UConn.
